Our voice matters, your voice matters
Join us as we work together to influence our elected officials in supporting legislation and policies that promote resource democracy.
There are several ways you can support the work of Economic Democracy Advocates as a member.
Active member
- As an active member, you’re part of the Governing Circle. You have a say in how EDA functions.
- As part of the Governing Circle, you are engaged in participatory democracy and are required to vote in elections*, ratifications and referenda. While we encourage a voting turnout of at least 80%, we need a quorum of at least 60% of active members in order to have a valid election, referendum or ratification.
- As part of the Governing Circle, you are expected to attend Town Hall meetings to hear the latest updates on EDA activities, discuss your ideas and weigh in on any matters of governance.
- Active members can also run for elected office.
- You’ll have access to a platform which our members use to communicate with each other. There you can review the day-to-day work of
the organization, see announcements, read articles, view presentations and participate in discussions. You’ll also have access to reports from our action teams: State Legislation, Advocacy, Research and Education.
- You’re encouraged to join one of our Action teams and participate in EDA’s work. Even if you don’t have the time to actively participate on an Action Team, you’re welcome to attend regularly scheduled Action team meetings to become familiar with projects that appeal to you. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome.
- The standard annual membership fee is $50. We also offer
a discounted membership to students and others who have
a commitment to our work.
- Active Members who do not participate in two consecutive elections/ratifications may be transferred to Supporting Member status.

Supporting member
- Not everyone may want to take part in voting or holding an elected position in EDA, but you may still want to participate in other EDA activities, special projects and public events.
- As you become more engaged and your schedule allows, you can move back to become an Active Member at your next renewal date.
- You are welcome and encouraged to work with State Legislation, Advocacy, Research and Education teams, as your time permits.
- The standard annual membership fee is $50. We also offer a discounted membership to students and others who have a commitment to our work.

VOLUNTEERS
Once you become a member, there are many different areas to volunteer in EDA. We’ll make it work for your schedule and availability. When you join EDA, filling out a brief survey on your background, skills and interests will help us learn a little more about you to see where we could utilize your skills and experience.
No matter what kind of work you do, everyone has transferable skills that can be applied to a variety of situations.
Volunteering in EDA is a great opportunity to learn new things, work collaboratively with an exceptional group of committed individuals, and further our work.
The more people we have, the lighter the workload for everyone.
Here are some examples of ways you can volunteer:
- Proofreading
- Doing research for various projects
- Writing articles, messages, or emails
- Helping with grants/proposals
- Working on short or long-term projects
- Helping to update the website
- Assisting with graphic design

As an Active Member you’re expected to participate in EDA elections. Since you did not participate in two consecutive elections, you have been moved to Supporting Member status.
If your status changes because of non-participation in two consecutive elections, you will be notified by email. If your status has changed and you’d like to be an Active member,

Yes, in fact we encourage all active and supporting members to join our Action teams. Even if you don’t have the time to volunteer, it’s a good idea to sit in on some of the team meetings to learn more about projects they’re working on. Learn more about our Action teams:
